Overview

The C5H5Mo(CO)3 unit is among the most ubiquitous fragments in organometallic chemistry. The present volume first describes neutal compounds of the type C5H5Mo(CO)31L (1L = alkyl, vinyl, aryl, and alkynyl) and the AC5H5Mo(CO)3=CR2U+ cations. Many of the C5H5Mo(CO)31L compounds are important precursors in organometallic synthesis. Typical reactions are the insertion of electrophiles into the Mo-1L bond, e.g., the insertion of SO2 with the formation of sulfinato derivatives. The kind of products formed in substitution reactions of the CO groups by nucleophiles depends strongly on the 1L ligand. The second part of the volume deals with compounds with one 5LMo(CO)3 fragment (5L is a general organic ligand bonded by five carbon atoms to the metal, e.g., substituted cyclopentadienyl or open-chain pentadienyl derivatives).
