Global Change & Forestry: Economic & Policy Impacts & Responses

Overview

This book is a collection of current research work on the economic and social impacts of, and policy responses to, global change mainly in the southern United States. This work primarily represents papers presented at the 2007 Southern Forest Economics Workshop in San Antonio, Texas. Several of these papers have been published in journals and are reprinted here with permission. The book covers a variety of changes including climate change, land use change, globalisation, and other forces as they relate to forestry. These papers address broad aspects of impacts and responses, including those of markets, forest resource management, forest landowners, and consumers. Though the book focuses on the southern United States--an important player in the domestic and global forest products markets and forest ecosystems, the issues addressed here well reflect those facing many other parts of the world. Hence, the research approaches and findings presented here have useful implications for forest resource management and forest products markets beyond the region.
