Rarely are we able to get books about US foreign policy written by those who observe it 'from the outside in,' or those who are mainly impacted by it. For the most part, we get books by (elite) Americans writing about what Americans do outside the US from an American perspective. This book, authored by non-American scholars with a grasp on the existing literature, but with very different perspectives, is a very important as a scholarly work and as a teaching tool. - Laura Sjoberg, Associate Professor, University of Florida
