Tan (PhD, mass communication, University of Wisconsin-Madison) is a professor of communication, a former Senior Fulbright Award winner, the author of 5 books and over 60 journal articles, and a past president of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. He is the founding director of the Murrow School of Communication and the inaugural Faculty Diversity Fellow at Washington State University.
