His recent publications include Decentralisation, Local Governments and Markets (Editor, Clarendon Press, 1990) and Local Economic Development (Bellhaven, 1991)., Robert Estall is Emeritus Professor of Geography at the LSE, from where he graduated in 1955. He has had three extended stays in the United States as Visiting Professor or Research Fellow, but his academic career has centred on the LSE. His major publications include Industrial Activity and Economic Geography (Hutchinson, 1980), New England: A Study in Industrial Adjustment (Bell, 1966) and A Modern Geography of the United States (Pelican, 1976).
