OverviewIn India, since the beginning of the 20th century, the 'library movement' has become an important social movement, and in particular, within the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, carving out for itself a significant and prominent place in the annals of library development. This book examines the origins, aims, and objectives of the library movement, and the development and spread of the movement in the three regions of Coastal Andhra, Raalaseema, and Telangana. As a result of Andhra Pradesh Public Libraries Act 1960, a network of public libraries have been functioning within the state, including the State Central Library, regional libraries, libraries at the district level, village libraries, book deposit centers, and mobile libraries. The book provides glimpses of the activities of various types of these libraries. It also looks at: recommendations by library committees, the state of affairs of private libraries in Andhra Pradesh, and the role played by professional associations and organizations in public library development. Finally, the book offers details on Indian institutions concerned with library and information science education. Full Product DetailsAuthor: A. A. N.
