Ingram has brought his wide knowledge of the world's religions and his own Lutheran faith to bear on the vexed question about how to write about what eludes and transcends our efforts at supposed literal language. Despite the elusiveness of his topic, he writes clearly and communicates well. . . . The book contributes theoretically to the discussion but speaks also to faithful people in many traditions. --John B. Cobb Jr., Claremont School of Theology, emeritus Paul Ingram offers essays from up close and personal, as one awestruck by encounters with the sacred weaving words and seeking to make sense of it all for oneself and for one's readers. Knowing full well that these efforts are bound to fall short right at the outset, one called to be a theologian nevertheless engages in an endeavor to which it is infinitely worth dedicating an entire lifetime. --Ruben L. F. Habito, Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University
