Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases associated with damage to the optic nerve that may cause vision loss. Open-angle glaucoma, normal-tension glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma are the common forms of glaucoma diseases. Open-angle glaucoma develops slowly without pain whereas closed-angle glaucoma can occur suddenly or gradually. It may involve severe eye pain, mild-dilated pupil, nausea and blurred vision. Damage of optic nerve caused by normal pressure is known as normal-tension glaucoma. The loss of vision that occurs as a result of glaucoma is permanent.
