Gibby's Great Adventure

Overview

After chasing a butterfly through the jungle, Gibby suddenly finds herself very far from her family and lost. Using her courage, confidence, and some clever teamwork, Gibby makes new friends on her quest to find her way home to the Frilly-Fig Tree. But with danger lurking in every direction will they make it to safety before the sun sets? Written by an ape expert, Gibby's Great Adventures children's book series introduces kids to the wonderful jungle world of endangered apes called gibbons. Every character in series has a real-life cousin in the wild, fostering valuable connections for kids with wildlife and teaching important lessons about curiosity, problem-solving, resilience, self-confidence, teamwork, empathy, integrity and the importance of nature conservation through storytelling.

Reviews

5/5 stars: Great book! Fun illustrations and lovely poetry to tell a story of working together despite differences to overcome obstacles. - Susan F. (Mother & Professor) 5/5 stars: Love Gibby. I am a mom of two boys. They absolutely loved Gibby and all her friends. After reading the story, my son asked for another Gibby story. The illustrations are very appealing to children. We can't wait to read more adventures. - JessieLee (Mother & Montessori Teacher) 5/5 stars: Characters, setting and plot are true to the Thailand rainforest where gibbons live - not like the usual cartoon based children's books. Writing and illustrations are exceptionally strong. Great for establishing a learning experience for young readers. Highly recommended. - Edith (Mother & Retired Teacher) 4/5 stars: We all loved Gibby! I read this with my young son and we couldn't wait to see who Gibby would meet next. My son loved looking for the marks Gibby has left all over the jungle. So much so we had to go back and look for more. From the mom's side, this is one story I won't mind reading over and over and overrrr again. - Vicki G. (Mother & Digital Ad Operations Specialist) 5/5 stars: Love the book!!! Just got it on my work iPad, read it, love the use of emotions, decision making, friendships, etc.... all the stuff I work on in therapy with so many kids!! Looking forward to using it in therapy with the kids! Great life lessons, social situations, facing challenges... clearly I am excited to read it and share with my colleagues. This book will be a great addition to my work! - Nicole A. (Mental Health Therapist, working with children and families)

Author Information

Growing up in Canada, Jackie was interested in animals and nature at a young age. But it wasn't until a fateful trip to Thailand in grad school that her true calling and passion for people, primates, and conservation began to flourish. Armed with some research equipment, a video camera, and a solid pair of hiking boots, Jackie left Canada knowing only one thing for sure: living alone on the other side of the world would not be a 'walk in the park'. Relying on the kindness of strangers, she needed to learn the local language and make friends fast in order to survive life in the jungle. It was a task that put her mental ingenuity and strength to the ultimate test - leading her to discover a lot about the endangered animals she studies, but even more about the intrinsic value of life on earth and what it means to be human. Now with over a decade of experience in teaching and primate research, Jackie is one of the few dedicated gibbon specialists in the world and founder of Prime Earth, sharing her story, knowledge, and love for all of life on earth to empower others and help create a more compassionate world. Josh Hrdlick is a true artist and humanitarian at heart. A former graphic designer turned occularist, Josh uses his talents to create stunning life-like prosthetic eyeballs for people who have lost an eye or eyes due to trauma or illness. Since 2012, Josh has worked with Jackie and Prime Earth, joining Jackie on expeditions to the jungles of Thailand to monitor and film white-handed gibbons in the wild.
