After VE Day, she was surrendered to the Royal Canadian Navy, where she served for two more years. Her keel was laid down on 7 October 1941 by AG Weser of Bremen. She was launched on 3 June 1942 and commissioned on 24 September 1942 with Kapit nleutnant Max Wintermeyer in command.
