Gerald Cope: Lessons in architecture as told to me over lunch

Overview

Elliott Curson is a great admirer of Gerald Cope's work, especially since he chose to locate his advertising agency's offices in one of the buildings Cope designed. Years later, Elliott had the opportunity to work on a project with Cope. It became a great friendship. Over the many lunches they had Elliott learned the one key thing that determines if a building is well designed. It's two sentences - a total of 10 words. Actually, 10 memorable words that once you see them you won't forget. The book is a quick read, and gives a good insight into a man many regarded as the dean of Philadelphia architecture. Buyer beware: This book doesn't show examples of Cope's fine work. It just shows his thinking.

Buyer beware: This book doesn't show examples of Cope's fine work. It just shows his thinking. Beth-Ellen Kroope, based in Philadelphia, is the principal of Beth-Ellen Kroope Public Relations. ""I met Gerald Cope in 1982 when I was the Public Relations Coordinator of HSH Princess Grace Gala at the Annenberg Center of the University of Pennsylvania. Gerry designed a big, beautiful gold star for the international event which celebrated her Hollywood film career. Most of her costars had already guaranteed their attendance, and the pressure was on. I was inexperienced but had good instincts; Gerry was smart, so calm and self-assured. Elliott Curson has been my mentor and friend and champion since my first political campaign in the 1970s, when he did the media and I was the Press Secretary. Through the decades, we have worked together on other political campaigns, marketing, special events, performing arts, crisis consulting, art exhibitions, etc. His advertising sells the product or service with the creativity of an artist and the timing of a musician. I am pleased and proud to work with Elliott, this time as Editor, in his salute to architect Gerald Cope.""
