OverviewGeothermal Energy Engineering: Technology Transfer with the Oil and Gas Industry focuses on geothermal energy technology, engineering, field, and operational topics as seen from an oil and gas industry perspective. To accelerate development of an important source of clean energy during the energy transition, proven oil and gas technologies can pivot towards geothermal energy production, for both power generation and direct heat applications. The book's chapters are written by world-renowned subject matter experts who address practical applications optimized in the oil and gas industry that can be adapted to accelerate geothermal energy production. The book progresses from an introduction to geothermal energy, covers types of geothermal and hybrid systems, addresses geothermal subsurface characterization, exploration, drilling, completion and production, facilities and project management, and includes analysis of technical and economic aspects of geothermal systems, gaps and future opportunities.” Full Product DetailsAuthor: Silviu Livescu (Professor, Department of Geothermal Studies, University of Texas, Austin, Texas, USA) , Birol Dindoruk (Distinguished Professor, Petroleum Engineering Department, Texas A&M University, TX, United States)Publisher: Elsevier - Health Sciences Division Imprint: Elsevier - Health Sciences Division Weight: 0.450kg ISBN: 9780443216626ISBN 10: 0443216622 Pages: 502 Publication Date: 22 May 2025 Audience: Professional and scholarly , Professional & Vocational Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Manufactured on demand We will order this item for you from a manufactured on demand supplier. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationDr. Silviu Livescu is the chief technology officer and cofounder of Bedrock Energy, focusing on massive decarbonization of large buildings using geothermal heating and cooling, and an editor-in-chief of Elsevier’s Geoenergy Science and Engineering. Previously, he was a professor in the Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Austin, United States, the 2020–2023 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) technical director for data science and engineering analytics, and the chief scientist of pressure pumping at Baker Hughes. Dr. Birol Dindoruk is currently a Distinguished Professor at Petroleum Engineering Department in Texas A&M University. Previously he was the Chief Scientist of Reservoir Physics and the Principal Technical Expert of Reservoir Engineering in Shell and as well as a Professor at University of Houston. His technical contributions have been acknowledged with many awards during his career, including SPE Lester C. Uren Award (2014), Cedric K. Ferguson Medal (1994), SPE Honorary Member award in 2023. He was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his significant theoretical and practical contributions to EOR & CO2 sequestration in 2017 and later on in 2025 elected to the National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Currently he is the Editor In Chief for all SPE Journals. Dindoruk is the only individual in the entire world serving as an editor-in-chief for the first three most cited oil, petroleum and natural gas journals on Google Scholar. Dr. Dindoruk is well-known for his extensive work on thermodynamics of phase behavior/EOS development, miscibility assessment and experimental work, interaction of phase behavior and flow in porous media, enhanced oil recovery and CO2 sequestration, and correlative methodologies. Dindoruk has 28 years of industrial experience, holds a BSc Degree from Technical University of Istanbul in Petroleum Engineering, MSc Degree from The University of Alabama in petroleum engineering and also a PhD from Stanford University in Petroleum Engineering and Mathematics, and an MBA from University of Houston.
