Overview

Georgia’s Charter of 1732, originally published in 1942, is a scholar’s guide to the charter. The full text of the Georgia Charter of 1732 is reproduced in the book alongside the Albert B. Saye’s account of the events leading up to the granting of the charter. This essential moment at the very beginning of Georgia’s history is better understood through Saye’s narrative surrounding the Georgia Charter. ALBERT B. SAYE (1912–89) was a professor of political science at the University of Georgia who was one of the most well-known scholars of Georgia history and politics of his time. He authored or coauthored twelve books, including New Viewpoints in Georgia History, A List of the Early Settlers of Georgia, Handbook on the Constitutions of the United States and Georgia (all Georgia), and Principles of American Government. ROY E. BARNES is an American attorney and politician who served as the eightieth governor of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1999 to 2003.
