Overview

In the course of the debate about collections from colonial contexts, Georg Zenker (1855-1922) stands as an example for a generation of collectors who brought together interdisciplinary collections for the Berlin museums in the heyday of imperialism. Zenker is regarded as a central and at the same time very ambivalent person in the history of German colonialism in West Africa. Based on extensive source material, this publication approaches Georg Zenker's biography, collecting practices, objects and networks. With the present trilingual volume in German, English and French, the knowledge about Zenker should be made accessible to a larger group of interested parties.
