He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Griffith University, Australia, and is a trained language teacher with extensive experience in teaching languages and applied linguistics in Senegal, India, the United Arab Emirates, France and Australia. He has published on topics related to Francophone studies in sub-Saharan Africa, French in sub-Saharan Africa, language planning and literacy in Senegal, and Islamic education and pedagogies. In 2010, he published The Politics of National Languages in Post-colonial Senegal. He is a member of the Research Centre for Languages and Cultures (RCLA) and an associate member of the Centre for Islamic Thought and Education (CITE).
