Volume 1. Selected as one of the Outstanding Academic Titles in the Humanities for 2004 by Choice magazine. The 4-volume series promises to be the most comprehensive annotated bibliography of Dickens's life and works ever compiled. - R. B. Meecker, Choice, October 2004 All Dickensians should look forward to the emergence [of the three remaining volumes in the bibliography]: if the first volume is representative of the immense breadth, careful organisation, and incisive critical acumen that this author brings to bear on his subject, they will be well worth the wait. - Leon Litvack, The Dickensian, Summer 2004 An amazing piece of scholarship, extensively researched, attractively presented with an extensive index. The 4-volume series promises to be the most comprehensive annotated bibliography of Dickens's life and works ever compiled. - R. B. Meecker, Choice, October 2004 every research library and Dickens collector will wish to have a copy. - Patrick McCarthy, The Dickens Forum, March 2005 DeVries does for Dickens studies what Johnson's Dictionary did for the English language. This volume inaugurates a series that will constitute the foundation on which further learning about Dickens will continue to build. An extraordinary achievement. - David Paroissien, Dickens Quarterly, June 2005 Volume 2. A master-work of bibliography, one that ranks with the greatest bibliographies in any field we are cognizant of. - Patrick McCarthy, The Dickens Forum, July 2011. Dickens studies has not seen an undertaking on this scale since the appearance seven years ago of the first volume of annotated bibliographies of general studies of Dickens and his works. Each weighty tome [of this work] represents the fruits of dogged persistence, ingenuity and intelligent planning, without which no attempt to impose order on the sprawling territory would have succeeded. - David Paroissien, Dickens Quarterly, September 2011.
