OverviewBy: Jonathan Person, Pub. 1873, Reprinted 2025, 330 pages, Index, soft Cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-693-2. This book is a collection of over 1,500 genealogies of the first settlers of the town of Schenectady which is located on the confluences of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers Even though the Schenectady was not officially created until 1798, settlers started arriving here in this area around 1661. These early pioneers were primarily of Dutch descent, with others from Ireland, England, Scotland and Germany. The author traces these families in the direct male line for at least three generations. The data used to create this work comes from the baptism and marriage registers of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady and other records from the Secretary of State of New York, the Clerks of the City and County of Albany, and the Court of Appeals. These genealogies are of various sizes from brief paragraphs to larger family histories. Data to be found within: names and dates of birth, marriage, and death, land holdings, occupation, place of residence, country of origin, and date of immigration. These genealogies are arranged in alphabetical order by surname. The index mentions approximately 6,000 persons.
