The concept of gender mainstreaming is likely to play an important role. It is a socio-political approach that has been elevated to a guiding principle of politics in Europe and Germany and is to be considered in all areas of public life. The author has examined the basic principles of how gender mainstreaming is implemented, the theories behind it, the goals it pursues, but also the existing inconsistencies, and has summarised them in a comprehensible and well-documented manner in this work, taking into account social, legal and historical aspects.
