Reviews

Gender-Based Violence, Law, and African Society engages in a multidisciplinary, in-depth approach by examining the intersections of culture, law, and gender-based violence, with the aim to broaden understanding, challenge harmful norms, and inspire transformative change. The publication of this book is timely, as meaningful African leaders and various groups are creating more awareness on the problems of gender inequity and injustice. It is a must-read for scholars, activists, practitioners, policymakers, community leaders, students, and members of the public in general.--Ifeoma Okoye, Virginia State University This book is a timely and essential exploration of the pervasive issue of gender-based violence on the African continent as it delves into the complex web of cultural norms, legal frameworks, and societal attitudes that contribute to the persistence of domestic violence in Africa. Drawing on insights from law, sociology, and gender studies, the authors examine the various ways in which traditional gender roles, harmful cultural practices, and societal expectations perpetuate violence and hinder efforts toward gender equity and justice. It offers a nuanced and multidimensional understanding of gender-based and domestic violence and provides a roadmap for addressing it. This book is a valuable resource for scholars, researchers, activists, practitioners, and policymakers working toward creating a world free from gender-based violence.--Oluyemisi Bamgbose SAN, University of Ibadan
