OverviewGhalib and Iqbal are representatives of the best literature that has been written in Persian and Urdu languages. Both of them wrote in these two languages and made experiments in terms of themes and styles. As far as Iqbal is considered, it has rightly been said that he came to complete the unfinished mission of Ghalib. Both Ghalib and Iqbal wrote the bulk of their poetry in Persian as they felt that Persian suited better for their expression of philosophical ideas. There is much similarity between the styles of Iqbal and Ghalib as both overloaded their writings in Urdu with Persian words and phrases. The lyrical excellence of their verses put the two poets together. Both are considered as masters of ghazal. Both believed that poetry is the product of life-blood. The purpose of the present study is to situate both of them in their respective context and then to analyse their respective philosophies as poets.
