Nelson Greenwood loves BMX racing almost as much as he loves to draw superheroes. The hero of his own comic book Major Speed isn't afraid of anything much like Nelson's twin brother Nick. Nelson looks up to Nick and his mad BMX skills. But when a rough crash keeps Nick out of the BMX-Treme Competition he suggests that Nelson take his place. However Nelson doesn't think he has what it takes to compete against the best racers in the city - especially Nick's nemesis Cain Otto. Can Nelson shift gears and muster the courage and strength of Major Speed to compete in the race Combining a high-stakes sports story with a dynamic full-color comic format this Jake Maddox Graphic Novel is sure to be a win for young athletes and struggling readers alike.

Author Information

Fernando Cano is an emerging illustrator born in Mexico City, Mexico. He currently resides in Monterrey, Mexico, where he works as a full-time illustrator and colorist at Graphikslava studio. He has done illustration work for Marvel, DC Comics, and role-playing games like Pathfinder from Paizo Publishing. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with friends, singing, rowing, and drawing. Passionate comic book artist Eduardo Garcia works from his studio (Red Wolf Studio) in Mexico City with the help of his talented son, Sebastian Iñaki. He has brought his talent, pencils, and colors to varied projects for many titles and publishers such as Scooby-Doo (DC Comics), Spiderman Family (Marvel), Flash Gordon (Aberdeen), and Speed Racer (IDW). Who is Jake Maddox? Athlete, author, world-traveler - or all three? He has surfed in Hawaii, scuba-dived in Australia, and climbed the mountains of Peru and Alaska. His books range from the most popular team sports to outdoor activities to survival adventures and even to auto racing. His exploits have inspired numerous writers to walk in his footsteps - literally! Each of his stories is stamped with teamwork, fair play, and a strong sense of self-worth and discipline. Always a team-player, Maddox realizes it takes more than one man (or woman) to create a book good enough for a young reader. He hopes the lessons learned on the court, field, or arena and the champion sprinter pace of his books can motivate kids to become better athletes and lifelong readers.
