Overview

Gastrointestinal tract disorders are the disorders involving the gastrointestinal tract, namely, stomach, esophagus, large intestine, small intestine, rectum and the accessory organs of digestion such as pancreas, gall bladder and liver. These disorders basically are of five types: oral diseases, esophageal diseases, gastric diseases, intestinal diseases and accessory digestive gland diseases. A few of the common oral diseases are plaque-induced diseases such as periodontitis, gingivitis and dental caries. Acute esophageal diseases include trauma caused by ingestion of corrosive substances, infections such as esophagitis, etc. Some examples of gastric diseases are pyloric stenosis, gastric cancer and atrophic gastritis.
