OverviewGastrointestinal imaging comprises of the techniques used for the imaging of the appendix and small bowel, liver and pancreas in the upper abdomen, and the colon and rectum. There has been immense progress in gastrointestinal imaging over the past decades, especially with advances in cross-sectional imaging such as magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography. This has played an increasingly important role in the evaluation of gastrointestinal disorders. Further, advances in endoscopic techniques, especially the development of capsule endoscopy have enabled the direct mucosal visualization of the gastrointestinal tract. Cross-sectional imaging techniques allow the thickness of the gastric and bowel wall to be displayed, the deep pelvis ileal loops to be visualized without superimposition, and the mesentery and perienteric fat to be evaluated. This book is compiled in such a manner, that it will provide in-depth knowledge about the theory and practice of the use of gastrointestinal imaging in medical science. The aim of this book is to present researches that have transformed this discipline and aided its advancement. With state-of-the-art inputs by acclaimed experts of this field, this book targets students and professionals.
