As stated by the series Editor in the foreword 'the goal of every book in the series is to provide essential information that any pathologist whether general or sub-specialised, in training or in practice, would find useful in the evaluation of virtually any type of specimen encountered'.
The 19 chapters of this book are actually designed to cover the 'essentials' of gastrointestinal, pancreatic and hepatic pathology. The main pathological entities are outlined and there are inserts ('fact sheets' and 'pathological features') which provide a very useful summary for the practicing pathologist and can be of major interest to trainees. The figures are of high quality and usually very representative (an inversion between the legends of figures 10-18 and 10-19 can be easily detected).
It is a huge task to summarise in a single volume the wholefield of gastrointestinal, pancreatic and liver pathology. I have a good opinion of the book that can be useful as a first level reference for practicing pathologists but can also help the gastroenterologist to understand the process of pathological diagnosis.
Reviewed by p.
