He received his MFA in Creative Writing from the University of New Orleans and his BA in Rhetoric & Writing from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He served in the Army Reserve as a public affairs specialist for six years, during which time he deployed to Bosnia as a NATO peacekeeper.
