Overview

"This proceedings volume gathers selected contributions presented at two instances of the ""JSPS/SAC Seminar: On Gas Kinetic/Dynamics and Life Science"", held by the Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg, Sweden, on March 25-26, 2021 (virtual) and March 17-18, 2022 (virtual). Works in this book provide a concise approach to the theoretical and numerical analysis of kinetic type equations that arise, for example, in modeling industrial, medical, and environmental problems. Readers will find some of the most recent theoretical results, newly developed numerical methods in the field, and some open problems. Possible application areas encompass fission/fusion energy, electromagnetics, nuclear science and engineering, medical service, radiation oncology, and plants growth conditions, to name a few. The JSPS/SAC seminars are jointly organized by JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)—Stockholm Office and the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology & University of Gothenburg, Sweden. These seminars foster discussions on the mathematical theory, industrial and life science applications, and numerical analysis of non-linear hyperbolic partial differential equations modeling collision-less plasma and charged particles. Chapter 11 is available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com."

"M. Asadzadeh is a Full Professor (Emeritus since 2022, continues as research staff) at the department of Mathematical Sciences Chalmers University of Technology and Gothenburg University. He defended his thesis 1986, and since then he has been employed at Chalmers. 1993-1995 he was a visiting Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and 2006-2007 he worked as Professor at Cornell. Spring 2009 he was visiting Kyoto University in a JSPS programme.  His research interest is numerical analysis of hyperbolic pdes, convection-diffusion and integro-differential equations: finite element methods for the neutral (neutron transport) and charged (Vlasov-Poisson, Maxwell/Vlasov-Maxwell, Fokker-Planck,Fermi, BGK and Schrödinger) particle transport.  He is in editorial board of 5 international math journals, he has authored 4 Math books and some 80 peer reviewed articles in math and engineering journals.  L. Beilina is as Full Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology and University of Gothenburg since 2018. She defended PhD thesis in 2003 at the same department.  In 2003-2005 and 2007-2009 she worked as an AssistantProfessor at University of Basel, Switzerland, and at NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. Since 2009 she has been employed at University of Gothenburg. Her main research interests are in the solution of inverse and ill-posed problems, optimization, adaptive finite element method andhigh-performance scientific computing. She is developer of software package WavES (waves24.com) for adaptive solution of forward and inverse wave propagation problems.   She is in editorial board of 3 mathematical international  journals. She is author of more than 80papers published in peer-reviewed journals and peer-reviewed conference proceedings, 2 books, and editor of 6 conference proceedings in the series ""Springer Proceedings in Mathematics and Statistics"". S. Takata has been a full professor at the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Kyoto University since 2013. He defended Dr. Eng. thesis in 1994 and has been employed at Kyoto University since then.
