Overview

"A color-illustrated chapbook of poems and photographs about the unique wildlife of the Galpagos Archipelago. The work is the result of an extensive trip to the islands taken by a father and son in 2021. The poems (by father) reflect on the personalities and settings captured in the photographs (by son). They amplify the comments Charles Darwin made after visiting the area in 1839: ""that mystery of mysteries-the appearance of new beings on this earth."" Which led to his theory of evolution based on natural selection. 13 poems, 34 color photographs."

Author Information

After retiring as curator of historic maps at Princeton University Library, John moved out to Port Townsend, WA, and has traveled widely, preferring remote, natural settings. Since that transition, he's published Waypoints (2017), a collection of place poems, Twenty Questions (2019), a chapbook, and Delicate Arch (2022), poems and photographs of national parks and monuments. Andrew makes his home base in San Francisco, California. His wildlife photographs were taken with a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM lens; underwater shots came from an Insta360 One X2 waterproof camera.
