Overview

This piece of futures forcasting reports on the prospects for the development and environment of the Mediterrranean for the next 40 years. It is sponsored by the UN Environment Programme and has been carried out by the Blue Plan Regional Activity Centre under the leadership of Dr Grenon. It uses ""scenarios"" to explore the implications of particular types of change and choices of action. The impact on the environment of five economic sectors - agrigculture, industry, energy, tourism and transport - is considered in detail, followed by a discussion of urbanization, and the environmental threat posed by poorly planned or unplanned development of coastal zones. This document has a range of statistical material, presented as tables and maps, and ends with a series of suggestions for action.
