Functional Skills Maths Level 1 is aimed at helping you pass this exam with ease. In the actual test, although the use of calculators is allowed, it is useful to do simple sums with confidence without using calculators. In addition to basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division you are expected to be familiar with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios and proportions in everyday context. Everyday problems often involve being able to estimate as well as being able to work with function machines and simple formulas. Also it is useful to be able to convert from one type of currency to another when you go on holiday! In addition, basic Data Interpretation or Statistics is useful to make sense of data that is presented numerically or visually in a workplace or in newspaper articles. There are also chapters on basic shapes and spaces since you also need to know how to work out lengths around a shape (perimeters), areas and volumes of basic shapes as well as be familiar with plans and drawing nets! Whichever Exam Board you are working for you will find this book useful for Functional Mathematics up to level 1 and prepare you for Functional Mathematics Level 2. These tests may be taken online and in the actual tests you can either pass or fail.
