Author Information

Jack Smith, born in 1969, is an American lawyer with a distinguished career in the U.S. Department of Justice and international tribunals. He served as a special counsel investigating former President Donald Trump from November 2022 to January 2025. Smith led two high-profile investigations into Trump: one concerning the January 6 Capitol attack and another regarding mishandling of classified documents. These investigations resulted in indictments against Trump in 2023. However, both cases were ultimately dismissed in 2024. The classified documents case was thrown out in July, while the election subversion case was dismissed in November after Trump won the 2024 presidential election. Prior to his role as special counsel, Smith held various positions in the Justice Department and served as chief prosecutor at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
