Mark Sargent's Fuck Death is an honest portrayal of aging, of the lost days and nights of youth, the degenerate state of the world. And yet he escapes the trappings of the maudlin and the nostalgic, offering instead a sardonic grin and wink at the absurdist beauty in the mundane. Sargent is a modern-day Hesiod and this collection of poems another entry in his Works & Days. He may not be a farmer, or raise sheep, but these poems admonish us to live right here and now, accept fate without self-reproach, and calmly say....Fuck Death.

Author Information

Mark Sargent was born in Olympia, Washington sometime in the past century. He studied at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado in 1975 & 1977. He has lived in Oregon, California and Mexico, among other places, plying his trade as a carpenter, snake oil salesman, street saxophone & combo honk, and bartender. He is a founding member of the Impossibilists collective and the jazz/poetry band Defenestration, director of the films Ellada, Fire, Behold and the Wall. He currently resides in a village in the mountains of southern Greece with his partner Mirella. He bats right, throws left and dances on occasion.
