Overview

The necessity of a book which gives a comprehensive account of new topics along with latest information on established topics in phytopathology has been felt ever since the significance of an interdisciplinary approach has been realized. The purpose of this book is to provide facts so that the readers are introduced to the details of the newer aspects in phytopathology as well as recent information on a few major existing aspects. It comprehensively deals with of some fresh, less discussed topics like Plant Pathology in the‘Omics’ Era, Plant Disease Diagnostic Kits, Plant Quarantine and Pest Risk Analysis, Biosafety and Biosecurity, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and World Trade Organization (WTO) in relation to Phytopathology, Nanotechnology in Plant Disease Management and Innovations in Teaching, Research and Extension in Plant Pathology. Key Highlights: The route of the changing path, the new ‘Omic’ technologies pertaining to plant pathogens and their significance have been dealt in detail in the first chapter. The chapter on ‘Plant Disease Diagnostic Kits’ discusses individual kits available globally to diagnose plant diseases. Useful information on the present scenario of teaching, research and extension in plant pathology has been furnished along with the limitations and future vision for further improvement. Of late, there have been phenomenal developments in major aspects of phytopathology including pathogenesis, defense mechanisms in plants and epidemiology. Such advancements in these fieldshave been discussed with more emphasis on the molecular aspects. There is a dearth of detailed published information on aspects like quarantine, biosafety, IPR and WTO, and nanotechnology in relation to plant pathogens. An attempt has been made to fill this gap. Each chapter is well supported by convincing tables, appropriate diagrams and illustrations at right places. A detailed bibliography provided at the end of the book will help in further reading. This book is mainly designed to meet the requirement of students, teachers, research workers, extension personnel, policy makers and several industries concerned with plant diseases apart from all those interested in phytopathology.
