From Solid State Chemistry to Heterogeneous Catalysis

Overview

Heterogeneous catalysis is deeply founded on solid state chemistry, but the relationship between the two often appears to be elusive in many cases. It is generally difficult to relate the allusion of symmetry to the crystal structure and the defect chemistry or acid-base properties to the surface reconstruction and extended defects that in most cases are the basis of physicochemical properties and solids applications. This book provides insights into solid state chemistry in order to widen the vision of heterogeneous catalysis. It covers a broad range of solid state related topics, including symmetry and structure organization, bonding, and methods for structure elucidation, as well as defects formation and their implications in heterogeneous catalysis.

Author Information

Dr Svetlana Ivanova holds a PhD degree from the University of Strasbourg, France, and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry in the University of Seville, Spain. Her research interests are centered on the design, synthesis and application of heterogeneous catalysts in H2 production and clean-up reactions as well as in biomass chemical valorization to high added value products. She has co-authored more than 90 articles, and co-edited contributed to seven books.Jose A. Odriozola is a Full Professor in the Inorganic Chemistry Department and the Materials Science Institute at the University of Seville, Spain, and a Visiting Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Surrey, UK. His research interests include catalysts and catalytic processes development, as well as the catalytic processes from electrons to reactors . He has co-edited Heterogeneous Catalysis for Energy Applications (with T.R. Reina, 2020) and Engineering Solutions for CO2 Conversion (with H. Garcia-Arellano and T.R. Reina, 2020).Dr Luis F. Bobadilla holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Seville, Spain, where he is currently a Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry. His research interests are focused on the rational design of heterogeneous catalysts and catalytic processes optimization aided by in situ and operando spectroscopic methods. He is the author of over 40 journal articles, and co-edited and contributed to five books.
