OverviewSynopsis: One time, John Brown and I were experimenting and built a 22-calibre zip gun. We used a couple of small pipes with the bigger one surrounding the smaller one, which was just big enough to hold a 22 bullet. This served as the barrel. The outside barrel had a little hole in it where we hooked a spring that we stretched back and attached to an Allen wrench. We had filed down the end of the Allen wrench to form a little notch that would serve as a firing pin. This would strike the rim of the bullet, causing it to fire. The Allen wrench worked well with this spring on it because it helped us to shoot straighter. When we pulled back on the spring and put it in a bind, we could aim the gun better. Then all we had to do was push up on the Allen wrench to unbind it and let it slide forward, striking the bullet. This worked very well except for one thing that had not entered into the minds of two eight-year-old boys. We had set an empty Clorox bottle about 4 ft in front of us. We crouched on our knees, with John behind me, with only his right eye and right ear sticking out from behind my head. With my heart pounding in anticipation, I triggered the zip gun and... Autobiography: Wilbur White is a man who has done many things in his life, whether it was disarming a bomb in Vietnam or doing CPR on a man in Walmart at 2:30 a.m. with the Fire Department. If you need a haircut, he is the man for the job, or getting cats out of trees. (He never found any cat skeletons up there). Or he would park his charter bus to assist the Fire Department in Atlanta, Ga., in hooking up the hose to their fire truck at the MLK site, where there was a fire in a restaurant next door. Playing in the hills of Beattyville, KY, with his 35 siblings helped to forge a strong love of family. Spreading blacktop was not one of his favorite chores, nor was hauling cattle from Canada to Texas. He drove a dump truck for a local company while building a portion of New Circle Road in Lexington, KY, between Tates Creek Rd and Richmond Rd. His most memorable event was laying the wreath at the tomb of George Washington at Mount Vernon. He can be found doing a security detail at church or telling a Simon Kenton or Daniel Boone saga to men and boys around a campfire at Royal Rangers' camps. Coming to the aid of strangers and friends alike is his lifelong endeavour. The greatest thrill of his life is leading a boy to Christ. Tears, pain, fear, laughter, joy, and happiness have all made up a very RICH and exciting life.
