Could the Intellivision Amico Be The Next Big Thing In VIdeo Games? The Mattel Intellivision was a legendary video game system from the early '80s that holds many firsts to its name. These Include: First use of voice synthesis in a game First console to offer digital distribution First pro sports licensing First 16 directional disc and d-pad controller First real time strategy game Instigator of the first console war (with Atari) After the great video game crash of 1983, although the Intellivision soldiered on in many forms, it largely vanished from the public's consciousness. Newcomers like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo quickly took over the territory that the Intellivision once occupied. To many, this game system was a relic of the past and was largely forgotten, until now. In 2018 video game legend Tommy Tallarico announced plans to bring back a re-imagined version of the Intellivision as the Intellivision Amico. Always a maverick, Tommy senses an enormous gap in the video game market between what has become known as casual and hardcore gamers. With the Amico, his intended goal is to bring these two groups together around a shared experience. In effect, Tommy's bet is that today's generation will enjoy the couch co-op experience today just as much as he did in the '80s.
