Overview

If you had to choose one thing to believe in and defend its validity in today's world, what would it be? In From Dusk to Dawn six characters trapped in an isolated inn on the edge of a cliff at the turn of the millennium make up a game to play until they're rescued. Reminiscent of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf From Dusk to Dawn explores the nature of personal belief and its effect on strangers and loved ones. In the process, relationships teeter and family secrets are exposed. Over the course of twelve hours, a British ex-military man and his wife of thirty years, a New York surgeon and his artist lover, a recently jilted thirty-year-old lawyer and a twenty-year-year old waitress who isn't always what she appears to be come to understand that belief often has nothing to do with truth. Literally a cliff-hanger, From Dusk to Dawn will keep you on the edge of your seat and inspire you to think about what you believe in as opposed to believing in what you think.

Reviews

I finished Maggie Barrett's wonderful novel From Dusk to Dawn at 2 a.m, and it was hard to sleep afterwards. My head was buzzing with ideas-and Maggie Barrett tackles most of the big ones. Why are we here? Is this all there is? What is of ultimate value? What do we really believe? What is love? And, most impressive, Barrett embeds these ideas within a riveting drama. Helen Whitney, documentary film maker, New York. From Dusk to Dawn is impossible to put down. The storytelling, timing and insight are brilliant. This book shows the grasp Maggie Barrett has on the strength and frailties of humanity. She is one hell of a writer and this book is a masterpiece. Sharon and Paul Mrozinski, antique dealers, France. From Dusk to Dawn is absolutely brilliant! The character development, humor, and tension are evidenced on every page. Larry Carlson, retired HBO executive and Artist, Bridgehampton, NY. Never before have I read a novel which broaches, through the real-life occurrences of the characters, the subjects of values and beliefs in such a riveting manner. At times, I felt quite shaken up as, along with the characters, I began to question my own values and beliefs. Joshua Kercher Jara, photography student, Florence, Italy.
