OverviewWhen I was six and in the first grade, a bright red apple changed the course of my entire life. The ensuing pages of my memoir, From Cuba to Williamsport, trace my family's journey from Cuba to America in the 1960s. Torn between the land they loved and rescuing their son from Castro's clutches, my parents chose freedom.America in the 1960s was a more carefree time for us, and I spent those years learning the language and customs. But the highlight was when I became a member of the West New York, NJ, Little League All-Star Team. The summer of 1966 was unbelievable because, against great odds, our team made it to the final game of the Little League World Series. When we returned, we were treated like rock stars. Our hometown organized a parade, and 45,000 people lined the streets to embrace their heroes. This was the greatest thrill of my childhood. It is my hope that my story will resonate with baby boomers, immigrants, baseball fans of all ages, and especially fans of Little League. Just imagine, this true story of my family's flight to freedom all derived from a bright red, shiny apple. I hope you'll read my book to learn how and why it occurred.
