From Biblical Animals to Family Pets

Overview

From Biblical Animals to Family Pets begins with ten general reflections on animals found in the Bible, explores their characteristics, and presents six exercises on biblical animal spirituality. In the second part, what is learned from exploring biblical animals is applied specifically to Shelbydog, the author's deceased pet; he demonstrates how his dog was a theophany, a manifestation of God, how she and he connected spiritually, and how she nourished his spirituality. Family pets not only represent spiritual biblical evolution, but they can help the readers who own one understand the spiritual connection they share with their pet. The book ends with reflections on animals and saints who connected spiritually with specific animals, plus a few words on modern whisperers who are able to connect spiritually with animals today. People share their spirit with their pet's spirit and discover Divine Spirit (God). Pets enhance spiritual awareness. To understand this process, read the pages of this book.

Reviews

""Boyer expands the notion of biblical spirituality to include the often forgotten or overlooked animals who are equally a part of God's creation. The pattern of Scripture, reflection, and journaling makes for a great companion in each of our spiritual journeys. I highly recommend this book."" --Vernon Meyer, Interim Pastor, Scottsdale Congregational Church UCC ""Boyer's latest book will feel as familiar as it is instructive for pet owners, nature lovers, and all who seek a divine presence in their everyday encounters with creatures great and small. A wonderful melding of The Shelbydog Chronicles with his past works focusing on spirituality in nature, each chapter guides the reader on a spiritual journey, grounded in biblical scholarship, to explore our relationships with the spirit in animals."" --John Kossler, Ecologist, Western Meridian Resources
