Author Information

As a teen, growing up in rural North Carolina, the author, Dana, and her grandmother spent most afternoons passing out bananas to residents at the local nursing home. It wasn't until her grandmother's passing in 2024 that the author realized one of the greatest lessons she had been taught during her youth: Service is not an act of obligation; it is an act of purpose. Dana has always shared a passion for community, service, engagement, and empowering others. She spent more than a decade of her career working with families and youth impacted by child welfare services. During these unpredictable and vulnerable moments, Dana offered hope. With academic accomplishments and earned degrees in Mass Communication (BA), Mental Health Counseling (MA), and Community Care and Counseling: Traumatology (Ed.D.), Freshman Survival 101 is a testament to Dana's lived experiences as a college student and return investment in the academic successes and development of other young adults pursuing their college endeavors.
