OverviewIt is difficult to imagine that figures like Newton, Voltaire, Goethe, Jung... each of them by itself an intellectual event in the history of mankind, would fall into a blurred, vague, and controversial 'story' such as Freemasonry, without a critical insight at least into the basic idea of this society-that despite all attacks and controversies successfully persists more than three centuries. It would be too naive to skip the possibility that these nonpareil intellectuals were attracted by a more serious and decently substantiated existential or ethico-social concept. Finally, the history of philosophy, religion, and ethical thought shows that preserving any idea which should integrates and unites is impossible if, at least with its small part, it does not communicate the utopian spirit of the universal human search for a good life and a better world. The search for the 'bonding spirit' that associates such noteworthy people through the history of Freemasonry is the real theme of this book-the same 'spirit' that Oxford Social Issues Research Centre's Report from 2012 deems should be preserved as the future of the Freemasonry may well be assured for the next century or two.
