OverviewThe question of whether you would be successful and happy living in the country is an important matter and should be addressed. While there are many advantages and conveniences to country living, there are also some inconveniences to which you may not be accustomed. For some people, the reduced amount of social interaction may be difficult to overcome, even to the point of causing culture shock. In time, however, you become acclimated and rarely give such things a second thought. Life in the country is different than life in the city or suburbs, but, strangely, the very things that you at first dislike most about the country come to be the things that you most cherish. In the long run, it will not be inconveniences or even isolation that will determine your overall happiness about living in the country. On the contrary, your success and happiness will come as a natural consequence of your labor and your commitment. Whether or not your first vegetable garden does well or is a complete disaster, you will discover, has little correlation to your overall sense of satisfaction, achievement and self-reliance. That you have taken direct responsibility for several important aspects of your life will be the source of your overall sense of well being and happiness. Before long, your sentiment will likely be that nothing in the world could make you move back to the city. It is true that in large areas of the country, there are limited available utilities, if any, including telephone or cell phone services, electricity, gas, water, water treatment and television. Most rural households must provide at least some and sometimes all of their own utilities. But, such conditions provide you with an opportunity to build your own utilities, which can add significant value to your property. Value creation is the process of applying a vision, a plan, labor and tangible material to building something that has greater value than the sum of its separate components. The degree of success or failure of a business enterprise lies in its ability to create value. The road from concept to market value, the creation process, can sometimes be long and difficult, but it can also be very rewarding and profitable.
