Free to Be is an anthology created by young artists and writers attending Camp Conroy's Build-A-Book summer camp program sponsored by the Pat Conroy Literary Center and Beaufort County School District in Beaufort, SC. In this two-week summer program, local campers create stories, poetry, and art for inclusion in their book. Campers also evaluate young contributors' outside submissions for consideration of publication and inclusion. Free to Be is a collection of creative works representing young voices of the South Carolina Lowcountry as well as writers and artists from around the globe. The Pat Conroy Literary Center nurtures a diverse community of writers, readers, teachers, and students by offering educational programs and special events that celebrate the transformative power of story, expanding our impact through collaborations with local and national partners.
