Table of ContentsReviewsFreckles is Scared of School, is book 1 in Vickianne Caswell's 'Freckles the Bunny Series', and is an adorable start to a series that children will enjoy reading. Freckles loves playing and spending time at home with her mom; however, Freckles is suddenly told that she is going to be starting school the next day. Freckles does not want to go to school and has dreams about how awful it will be. However, when Freckles arrives at school, she realizes school is not what she was expecting it to be and she enjoys her day with her classmates. When it is time to go home at the end of the school day, Freckles does not want to leave, but she is reminded she will be able to come back the next day. This is a cute story that discusses beginning school, an experience that many children are anxious about just as Freckles is. Young children will enjoy reading about Freckles and be comforted that school is not scary and it is really is an enjoyable experience. I love that the author uses her own pets from her childhood as the characters in the book; it is such a sweet idea! Also, the animals are all different and, therefore, they create a diverse classroom for Freckles. Children will be in a classroom with other children who are different from themselves and this allows for learning about others, but it can also be a scary or intimidating experience to find oneself with others who are different. Freckles met different animals and although they had different ways of doing things, they had an enjoyable day together as a class and friends. - Reviewed by Kristie Ingerto for Readers' Favorite (5 stars) Author InformationVickianne Caswell is married and has one daughter, who has an amazing gift with animals (all animals, wild or tame seem to love her). Vickianne was raised an animal lover, in the cities of Saskatoon and Regina. She has been writing at home since she was a teenager, after her father got her interested in writing when he published a poem. She has done a few articles for a small paper on animal care and continues to experience the joys of pet ownership on an acreage where the family lives at present. Vickianne began writing again in 2012 after the quiet life and animals on an acreage inspired her and is now a proud member of the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild (through the business only at present). She wanted to create a set of children's stories in memory of her rabbit Freckles and the desire to teach morals that are sometimes forgotten. She published her first book in the series entitled, Freckles the Bunny Series in 2012. Since that time, she has published 4 more books in the series and a companion book that shares information about the real animals from the stories. Vickianne is currently on her second series as well. Sherlock the Remarkable Cat Series, was published in January of 2014. She has won a Readers Favourite 5 Star Review Award for most of her stories. Vickianne's children's books are based on her real pets with the same unique personalities. Many were unwanted, strays or rescues and each special in their own way. Every book in each series comes with Fun Facts and a Behind the Story at the back of every book. She is always more than happy to visit a school with Freckles III and put on a presentation/story hour for children. Allissa Thompson was raised on a grain farm near Beechy, Saskatchewan, a village. She taught herself how to draw at a young age and is still very passionate about drawing. She also is an animal lover, growing up with many different cats and dogs, creating stories with some of her cats and dogs as a child. Allissa graduated from high school in 2010 and spent two years at college. She is now residing in Saskatoon, SK, she is pursuing a Bachelors in Illustration through online correspondence at the Academy of Art Institute, based in San Francisco, California. Alissa's schooling is starting to take up more of her time and she needed to concentrate on her studies, instead of the series. We enjoyed working with her and she will be missed. Good luck with your schooling Allissa! 4 Paws Games and Publishing is a family-run company. We publish books, music, videos, photography and visual novel games. The owner has been publishing since 2012 but did not officially launch a business until 2015. The company offers two forms of book/e-book publishing. These are sent out to different printing and distribution companies. Each has their own unique benefits. The owner wants to help people who can't afford the higher costs of publishing. To do this, we've minimized our costs by doing much of the work for less, finding lower cost printing companies, working online only rather than through a building, hiring freelancers and no staff. We specialize in publishing and offer a variety of help from beginning to end (as in, when you end your contract). You do need to sign a contract, but you can give us a month's notice to pull out of it at any time. You retain the rights and have the majority of say from beginning to end. Royalties are at least equal to any other company out there. 4 Paws Games and Publishing is located outside of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Canada. We have clients from the Philippines, South Africa, U.S.A and Canada, and we would love the opportunity to help you! Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
