Overview

""Masterfully blends Christian values."" -Carol Thompson - Former Journalist ""Children will be excited to turn the page and see what happens next."" -Philip Van Heusen - Retired Minister Synopsis: ""Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy"" (Matthew 5:7) is a Bible verse we should all take to heart, but showing mercy and forgiveness isn't always easy. For Franky, this challenge becomes especially tough when the school bully gets on his case. To make matters worse, two seemingly friendly monsters appear, convincing Franky to seek revenge by playing silly pranks. As the situation escalates, discussions with his neighbor George and convictions from the Holy Spirit help change Franky's perspective. But did he take his pranks too far? Join Franky and a cast of unusual characters in learning about spiritual warfare, empathy, and the power of forgiveness. Frankendork: From Darkness Unto Light is the first instalment of the series. ""You'll want to grab this one with both hands. It's eye-opening, entertaining, and packed with timeless truths that few are talking about these days. All in one short children's book."" -Kristine L, Reedsy Discovery

Reviews

"Vivid and vivacious, Frankendork is a little gem of a story. The author has a knack for creating well-rounded, three-dimensional characters that are dynamic and relatable. Clever and engaging, the story is propelled by pitch-perfect pacing and pours out of the pages like sunshine on a summer day. It's also quite refreshing to see scriptural truths and biblical insights tucked into these pages with such skill and dexterity. Delightful! It will resonate with fans of C.S. Lewis, Frank Peretti, and John Bunyan. It would make a great read-aloud or bedtime story selection. -Kristine L - Reedsy Discovery The work is also thought-provoking as the themes explored trigger one to think about the importance of doing the right thing and the dangers of being vengeful and trusting other powers to get even with those who wrong us. The language used is easy to understand, hence making the book accessible to all kinds of readers. I look forward to reading something else by this talented author. -Frank Mutuma - Readers' Favorite Each character is well-developed and relatable, especially to children who have been bullied and teased at school. The pacing is well-suited for a young audience, keeping readers engaged while delivering its important moral lessons. Frankendork is a great addition to any child's library, especially for those looking to reinforce Christian values and the power of forgiveness. -Carol Thompson - Former Journalist Barney Ludkins shares a very important lesson with children. With colorful illustrations by Ilham Fatkurahman, Ludkins shows the effects of revenge and compassion. Children often struggle with intimidating peers, and they need to see the bully from a new perspective. By presenting a child who receives the same treatment at home as he extends to others, Ludkins demonstrates the need for grace. Caregivers and educators can feel confident about recommending Frankendork to young people as it focuses primarily on making faith-based decisions. -Courtnee Turner Hoyle - Author I can't remember the last time I read a children's book that's as eloquent and timely as this gently faith-flavored story. Captivating! When a young boy becomes the butt of cruel comments and jokes by a school bully, he wants to strike back hard and fast. But Franky soon learns that revenge isn't all it's cracked up to be and that compassion and forgiveness are better options in this gently faith-flavored, highly readable story for young readers. Franky is pretty nervous about starting school. Things get worse when Franky becomes the butt of barbed remarks and unkind comments from Billy, the school bully. Back home later, Franky discovers ""two peculiar-looking creatures"" lurking - you guessed it - under his bed. Introducing themselves as ""Chugg and Snot,"" the two creatures try to talk a reluctant Franky into retaliating against Billy. (Alert readers may detect a touch of C.S. Lewis's The Screwtape Letters here.) It's not long before Franky, Chugg and Snot are transported to a ""mysterious school."" It soon becomes evident that Franky's new ""friends"" are up to no good. Still stung from Billy's bad behavior, Franky wants to get back at the bully. Chugg and Snot feed Franky's thirst for revenge. But Franky begins to wonder if there's a better way? He also begins to wonder why Billy is so angry. And instead of trying to get revenge a la Chugg and Snot, what might happen if Franky ... Oh, wait. You'll have to read the book yourself to find out what happens next. Vivid and vivacious, Frankendork is a little gem of a story. Delightful! So you'll want to grab this one with both hands. It's eye-opening, entertaining, and packed with timeless truths that few are talking about these days. All in one short children's book. It also has a free resource download at the end of the book. So keep an eye out! Finally, I can't remember the last time I read a children's story that's as eloquent and timely as Frankendork. I hear more Franky books are in the works. I can't wait! -Kristine L, Reedsy Discovery"
