Huxtable established architecture and urban design journalism in North America and raised the public's awareness of the urban environment. She was the first full-time Architectural Critic at an American newspaper and inn 1970, she was awarded the first ever Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. A MacArthur fellow, she was the architecture critice for The New York Times from 1963 to 1982, and at The Wall Street Journal from 1997 to 2012.
