O'Sullivan is the author of several books, including FDR and the End of Empire (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012) and Sumner Welles, Postwar Planning and the Quest for a New World Order (2009) which won the American Historical Association's Gutenberg Prize. He teaches history at the University of San Francisco and is a recipient of their Innovations in Teaching Award as well as their Distinguished Lecturer Award and was a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the University of Jordan.
