OverviewIn the 1880s Mary Jane Mount Tanner wrote her life's story to leave to my posterity an account which I think will interest them, and give them an idea of the changes and vicissitudes we had to pass through in the early settlement of Utah, and also in the early rise of the Mormon church. To add dimension to her autobiography, the editors have included letters and extracts from her diaries. Mary Jane chronicles her activities as an LDS Relief Society president and wife of a bishop; her responsibilities as the mother of a large, active family; her seemingly never-ending drudgery at domestic chores; her attitude and posture in a polygamous setting; her frustration with her health; her obsession with the dream of writing; and more. She left a fascinating view of society a hundred years ago as seen through the eyes of a devout and involved Mormon polygamous woman.
