OverviewThe story of this play takes place in the summer of 1964, deep in the back hill country of the Ozarks. Out on Cherry Creek ridge lives the family of a proud, but lazy dirt farmer named Roscoe Wingate. Roscoe and his family are content living off the land and raising a few chickens now and then. Most days are spent day dreaming or looking for ways not to expend too much energy. Life is good for Roscoe and his family. After a trip into town to sell some chickens, a chain of events begins that brings more excitement and change into their world than they ever dreamed possible. Their simple lives are turned upside down when con artists make fowl play of their plans, only to later chicken out when threatened by an unseen force. In the end Roscoe and his family learn the reason for the changes in their lives and embrace the new path they are on.
