OverviewThe management of suspicious deaths is a central issue for criminal justice and human rights protection in the DRC. This study analyzes the legal and institutional framework, hospital and forensic practices, and operational challenges encountered in the field. A qualitative methodology was adopted, combining documentary review and questionnaires with doctors, nurses, OPJs and magistrates. The results point to structural shortcomings, limited coordination and a lack of training, all of which impact on the quality of investigations and the confidence of families. Recommendations are made to strengthen the legal framework, professionalize the players and improve the transparency of procedures. The criminological implications underline the importance of an integrated approach to strengthen justice and crime prevention.
