OverviewMegan Loneragan should not be alive. In 1993 she was a beautiful young seventeen year old woman full of life and all of its possibilities. She was feisty and lived by her wits, with a sharp tongue and a prodigious sense of humour. 17th March 1993 changed all that, altered it forever, except for her spirit. That could not be squashed. Megan did not die at the accident site, nor did she die before arrival at the hospital 12 hours afterwards. She did not die during her nine months in the hospitals; or when she had a stroke; when her body began to shut down; when her heart failed; or when she had a cardiac arrest. Why? Perhaps it wasn't her time but perhaps it was the sheer devotion and love from her mother who pulled her back from the brink time and time again. The love of her parents, sisters and all of her family and friends made the impossible possible and the improbable probable. Today Megan has overcome adversity and is a shining light of encouragement and motivation to those caught in the same nightmare; someone living with an Acquired Brain Injury; but living a full life. Megan's story is of challenges, excitement, disappointments, elation and humour but above all else it is a story of her hard work; of a human spirit that soared beyond all expectations; and of the abiding love and commitment of a mother and a family to never give up. Miracles can, and do, happen.
